Zonta and the United Nations

Visiting the United Nations is always a great opportunity for Zonta members. In the

past, many of our members had taken advantage of the League of Women Voters New

York State (LWVNYS) UN Day which has been held in November. Unfortunately, the

LWVNYS is taking a break from their UN Day this year. It is our hope that they will be

reinstating this day in 2019. This would be of particular significance since both Zonta

and the LWVNYS will be celebrating a 100th anniversary and a visit to the United

Nations would be a wonderful way to observe the centennials of both organizations.

Although this event will not take place this year, you may want to think ahead, joining

other Zonta members in attending the Conference of Women (CSW 63) which is being

held March 11-22, 2019. The priority theme is ‘Social protection systems, access to

public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment

of women and girls”. The review theme is “Women’s empowerment and the link to

sustainable development”. Participants do not need to attend the entire session. In the

meantime, you may want to familiarize yourself with the Commission on the Status of

Women and the types of activities that occur during the conference. Zonta International

has provided some initial information on CSW63.
