Governor Bonnie's Post

Message Dec. 16, 2019

Dear District 4 Zontians, Governor Bonnie’s Letter

EXCITING NEWS – Just today, Convention Chair Sally Bean & President Susanne informed me that our District 4 Centennial Flag will be displayed at Convention. I’m so excited & proud that we are playing a special part in the Convention. Besides our Nellie playing her harp, it’s another reason to go to Chicago.

NEW ZI AWARDS – We in D4 have Good News just released by the Zonta International Awards Committee. Candidates from the Zonta Clubs of Niagara Falls, Ontario & Saint Catharines, Ontario have received Scholarships. ZC St. Catharines’ Daniela Gatti received a District YWPA award of $2,000 USD. ZC Niagara Falls’ Lindsey Tulloch was awarded one of ZI’s First Ever ZI Tech Awards of $8,000 USD. Congratulations to these women & our thanks to the clubs whose efforts resulted in rewarding & honoring these deserving applicants.

16 DAYS – ZC Niagara Falls, ON held their traditional inspiring Orange Lighting of the Horseshoe Falls on the Eve of the 16 Days. On every day of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence, Advocacy Chair Julie Brown sent each of us a message on a different aspect of violence. Many clubs are having various events. To advocate for eliminating Violence Against Women, we’re Wearing Orange.

DAY AT THE UNITED NATIONS –D4 UN Chairs had a group at the UN for the League of Women Voters New York State Day at the UN. They have had a wonderful time. I hope some more of you will go in ’20.

CENTENNIAL TRAVELLING FLAG – The Flag has already visited Areas 1, 2, 3 & 5. The project has been successful in uniting the Zontians in different clubs & making Zonta more visible in our communities. On January 9, it will start Area 6 at ZC Pittsburgh’s meeting. After Area 6, the flag will go to Area 4 before going to Convention in Chicago. In addition, a club can still borrow the flag for an event in another Area if it can be arranged.

CENTENNIAL TIME CAPSULE – AD Jenny Johnston has received 21 archival bags of mementos from clubs. The remaining 12 clubs need to contribute their bags to Jenny for inclusion in the capsule. This is a memorable way to mark Zonta’s history for the future.

WORKSHOPS – Host Clubs are Brampton-Caledon, ON for Areas 1 & 2 on April 4 /Oil City-Franklin, PA for Areas 5 & 6 on April 25 / Hamburg-Orchard Park, NY for Areas 3 & 4 on May 9. Every member may go to any or all Workshops. Members’ evaluations from the 2019 Workshops & Conference help to choose the topics for the 2020 Workshops so You actually have an influence on what will be discussed. Let’s try to top the 2019 Workshops registration of 177!

CONVENTION – Registration is open on D4 & ZI sites. You must register before you can reserve a hotel room.

A4D GINA ORSINI – Gina has had to resign as A4D due to health issues. We are grateful to Gina for her service & keep her in our thoughts & prayers as she continues to recover. Nearby ADs Jenny Johnston & Ann Marie West will take care of 3 or 4 clubs each in Area 4 throughout the remainder of the biennium.
