Governor Bonnie's Post

Message Nov 1, 2019

Dear District 4 Zontians, Governor Bonnie’s Letter – Four “C”s

There is so much news in D4. I’ll start with the Four “C”s.

CONVENTION – I hope you can be there with us when Zonta International concludes our Centennial Celebrations at our exciting Convention. Registration is now open at zonta.org for the Zonta International Convention in Chicago on July 4 – 8, 2020. The full cost is $410 until it goes up on Feb. 13. You must register for Convention before you can register at the hotel. The Convention Center & official hotel is Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile on Michigan Avenue. Zonta rate for single & double rooms is $189 + 17.4% tax.

In addition to the interesting business sessions, there are lots of opportunities for socializing with Zontians from all over the world: social events including a cruise, at meals & free time. And our own Nellie Brown is honored to be asked to play the harp at the Memorial Service.

As she did for our D4 Conference, Secretary Marianne Chiumento has volunteered to help women who want to go to Convention but need a roommate to share the expense of a room. She will simply keep a list of all those who email their names & contact info to her at [email protected]. She will email the list to all those on it so they can contact each other to make their own arrangements.

CENTENNIAL – D4 Clubs are celebrating in a big way with so many diverse ideas from gardens to drone photos to events. We also earned an outstanding collection of 4 ZI Awards & 3 ZI Grants. We presented 3 District Centennial Awards to Timea Nagy of Canada, Mary Travers Murphy of New York & Susan Evans of Pennsylvania. Our Canadian Advocates Connie Deckert & Julie Brown facilitated their plan to enable all Canadian Zontians to have a voice in choosing their Country’s ZI Centennial Award Recipient, Dr. Beverly Jacobs. Our D4 Centennial Project, the Travelling Centennial Flag will continue to connect our members as it travels to every Club.

CONFERENCE – Thank you to all the 149 who registered for our busy D4 Centennial Conference. Your enthusiasm energized us & your evaluations helped to plan our Spring Workshops with what you want. We passed our suggestions for ZI Bylaws changes & sent them to ZI. In addition to our usual business, we celebrated our Centennial so it was a very busy time. Evaluations showed that the speakers, workshops & ZI Director Judy Gorton’s were favorites. For many, it was the first time they’d ever seen the Installation of Officers.
