Zonta International and District 4 clubs offer awards that help women and girls study, lead and build careers. Most awards start with a local Zonta club, so a District 4 club near you can help you apply.

Amelia Earhart Fellowship

For women doing doctoral research in aerospace engineering or space sciences.

  • Who can apply: Women in a full-time Ph.D. or doctoral program
  • Award: Up to 30 fellowships of US$12,000
  • Deadline: November 15, 2026 (for 2027)
  • Apply: Online, directly to Zonta International

For women studying science, technology, engineering or mathematics.

  • Who can apply: Women from the second year of an undergraduate program to the final year of a master’s
  • Award: 16 international awards of US$5,000
  • Apply: Through a Zonta club; the club sets the deadline

For young women showing leadership and an entrepreneurial spirit in business.

  • Who can apply: Women aged 18 to 35
  • Award: 10 international awards of US$5,000

Who can apply

Each award has its own rules, listed on its card and in full on the Zonta International page. You don’t need to be a Zonta member: Zonta members, and employees of Zonta International and the Zonta Foundation for Women, can’t apply. Applications must be typed and in English.

Timeline

  • November 15, 2026 Amelia Earhart Fellowship applications for 2027 are due at Zonta International.
  • End of April 2027 Amelia Earhart applicants hear whether they’ve been selected.

District 4 deadlines go here: when clubs send their recipients to the District, and when the District names its nominees. Link each date to its calendar entry.

Club deadlines for the other awards vary, so ask the club you’re applying through.

How to apply

  1. Choose an award and check that you’re eligible on its Zonta International page.
  2. For the Women in STEM, Women in Business Leadership and Young Women in Leadership awards, contact a Zonta club near you. The club gives you its deadline and tells you where to send your application.
  3. The club chooses its recipient and sends them on to District 4, which nominates candidates for the international awards.
  4. For the Amelia Earhart Fellowship, apply online directly to Zonta International.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a Zonta member?

No. These awards are for people outside Zonta; Zonta members can’t apply.

There’s no Zonta club near me. How do I apply?

You can apply through a Zonta e-club or directly to District 4. Email the District 4 Awards Chair at [email protected].

How much are the awards?

The international awards are US$5,000 each, and US$12,000 for the Amelia Earhart Fellowship. Clubs and the District may give awards of their own too.

When will I hear back?

Amelia Earhart applicants hear by the end of April. For the other awards, the club you apply through will tell you its dates.
