Break the Barrier, Restore the Balance
was the theme for this year’s well-organized, entertaining, educational Z Club Mini-Conference hosted by St. Augustine Z Club and the Zonta Club of Brampton-Caledon. About 50 students set up and viewed displays showing how Z Clubs had advocated for women and girls throughout the year.
Highlights of the program included a skit written and acted by 3 grade nine Z Club members. It was called the Three P’s – Period, Pregnancy and Paternalism, issues that attendees said were relevant to them. We heard the wonderful voice of soloist Gwyneth Rosales and watched the Z-Club Dance team. Speakers encouraged opinions to be given and discussed the reality of gender difference in different areas of life as well as what needs to be done to change the status of women. In workshops, students talked about Child Marriage, Gender Rolls and Zonta Advocacy.
